Introducing our newest team member Kirk!
Kirk is one of our newest teachers here at the Technical Institute for Indoor Gardening. Kirk is from New Jersey, has worked in many different indoor and outdoor growing projects, and is full of knowledge. Kirk has a Bachelors degree in Biology and graduated Summa Cum Laude, top of his class. Kirk has a wide range of science experience. With 3 years as a lab manager, culturing breast cancer cells along with other various animal cell cultures and almost just as much time working privately in plant tissue culture. 6 years hydroponic growing experience, and 8 years of teaching college level math and science.
Basic Indoor Gardening Learn the five basic elements to building a successful indoor garden! All of which are equally important for a working garden. We cover the all modern day techniques from soil gardening to basic hydroponic methods. At the end of every class, students will learn to put together an ebb & Flow system. We show you how to monitor your nutrients and PH, control your humidity and temperature and how to optimize your environment to fit your plants needs, from grasses and flowers to fruits and vegetables, we've got you covered!

Co2 Supplimentation With Ed Rosenthal!!!!!
Yes that's right we are going to have Ed come in on a number of classes, including CO2 supplementation, one of his specialties!!! Thinking of giving your plants that extra boost? Before adding another variable to the equation, get the basics down and get a solid and safe system running in your garden. We go through set-up's (propane and pure Co2), controller boxes, ppm regulation, and how to set the right environmental conditions to maximize Co2 uptake.
Pest and Disease Control
Got some nasty critters hanging about, do they keep coming back no matter what you try? Identify and stop the nuisance before it becomes a real issue. The class covers proactive and preventative techniques of disease control, including reactive gardening measures. Students will learn to institute corrective action after identifying and isolating garden problems. Prevention, control, and eradication! Discussion includes organic and chemical based treatments.

Deficiencies: Identification, treatment, and regiment compensation.
Yellowing, curling, spots, weak discolored stems, stunted growth. All symptoms of something the plant is missing, something that a quick feeding regiment change can fix. Some deficiencies look similar to others and can be hard to identify, other symptoms can be a result of environmental conditions such as over-fertilization. Don't waste your time and money treating the wrong ailment. Not only will student get an easy to follow identification key but we will also go into how each nutrient is ingested and transported through-out the plant, giving you a better understanding of how deficiencies manifest.

Mediums
One of the five elements of growing, the medium you choose to grow in will decide a number of factors from the start. Know what your getting your plants into before you jump in. We will go through every medium on the market and, due to advancements in horticulture the past decades, we have got a lot more options than soil nowadays. No medium is wrong, we will weigh their costs and benefits, and find you the medium that suits your needs the best.

Advanced Indoor Techniques (Aeroponics, Deep water culture, Nutrient Film)
Students will learn the dynamics of flood and drain, aeroponics, drain to waste, and recirculation systems. We will be covering techniques in selecting proper grow mediums. At the end of every class, students will learn to put together an advanced system. Aeroponics is quickly becoming a popular method of indoor gardening. The quality and yield of produce grown aeroponically can be incredible, however unforgiving to an inexperienced aeroponic gardener. This class will teach you the basics of aeroponic gardening as well as equipment and nutrient management. We will also discuss other modern day techniques such as nutrient film techniques and vertical methods.

Mineral (Inorganic)Based Nutrient Management & Reservoir Maintenance
This class covers everything you wanted to know about mineral derived/inorganic nutrition, but were afraid to ask! There is more than one right way to feed your plant, each person has their own method, each with their own benefits. Students will be shown how to mix nutrients, ratios to give, and the various feeding schedules at all stages of life, in order to maximize their fruits and flowers. One-part, two-part, three-part, four-part systems. The reservoir maintenance portion is a new and vital addition to the class. EC, PPM, TDS, and Ph management. Biological(Organic) Based Nutrient Management & Reservoir Maintenance
Everything you wanted to know about organically derived nutrition, but were afraid to ask! Students will be shown how to compost soil, the various beneficial bacteria, and everything from sea kelp to earthworm castings and what they provide to the plant. Controlling your Environment
Sometimes a home garden may be a nuisance to neighbors as some plants, like cabbage, don't smell that great as they are growing. We have got the know-how and the equipment to make sure you don't disturb a fly, let alone a complaining neighbor. All Ladies Class
The all ladies class is a basic introduction to indoor gardening with a female perspective. Students will learn the basics of pH, room temperature and humidity, growing media, and basic nutrient management. This class is meant to not only be informative but also a great opportunity for lady gardeners to get together, share tips and tricks, and generally socialize. These are all new concepts for the home grower that have been gaining some attention, Here at The Technical school, we get technical, down to a microscopic level, to see and get most out our plants. Ethno-botony
Since the beginning of our terrestrial biosphere, plants and animals have evolved in unison, creating a symbiotic relationship between the two. Man has been using the materials and chemicals provided naturally by plants for both survival and advancement. Every culture and region has it's own native species, each with their own unique medicinal, religious, and industrial. Learn the wide variety of plants used around the world and what they are used for. From lycopene in tomatoes to the antioxidant's in garlic, there are thousands to learn, we will cover the most active and widely used species. There is a plant for almost every symptom that may plague you, find your natural miracle cocktail by using the natural secrets to living a healthier life.
Aquaponics
(TBA) This class is the perfect introduction to the developing indoor Aquaculture industry. Learn about the construction and operation of aquaponics systems ... and how to raise tilapia (fish) and lettuce indoors so you can make your own tacos! Eric is an experienced farmer in the ever changing world of alternative farming systems.
Breeding
Want the biggest pumpkins on halloween or a unique bouquet of roses in your garden? Student will learn how to avoid bad genetics and draw out favorable traits through crossing and selective hybridization. We provide a fail safe number system based on mendelian principles so that anyone can measure, track, and manipulate the traits of their liking.
Mushroom Cultivation
Learn how to cultivate your own mushrooms! Curriculum discusses the basics of mushroom cultivation on a straw-based substrate and the simple care for these scrumptious edibles. Further information on specific details of growing Shitake, Blue Oyster, Lions Mane, etc. will be covered in this class.
Greenhouse Construction
(TBA) Learn what it takes to design and construct a first-class greenhouse for your own property. In this hands-on class you will determine, materials, layout and draw your design. Followed by helping construct the school’s first greenhouse.
Working in the BIZ. (Retail training)
If you are looking to get your foot in the hydroponics industry, you need to have some know-how, problem solving techniques, and maybe some advice on how to deal with those sometimes "ornery" customers that may come your way. We give quality training on how to be a valuble team player, we will whip you into shape and give you real time training!
